Geothermal heating systems transfer the earth’s own heat into buildings via electric heat pumps. The overall efficiency of a geothermal heating system is about four times better than a conventional furnace that burns fossil fuels. Wider installation of geothermal heating systems could cut the use of petroleum-fired heating systems and electricity substantially, and thus could contribute a great deal to reducing green house gas emissions and dependence on foreign oil. Geothermal heating is also an alternative heat source that is ecologically and environmentally friendly.
Geothermal heating systems offer clean, renewable climate control at extremely low operating costs and with virtually no maintenance. The systems are composed of fluid-filled pipes that exit the building, descend to levels between 125 and 250 feet below the earth’s surface, and then loop back up and into the building. In the winter, the pipes bring heat up from the bottom of the loop. Electrical air-moving equipment then transfers the heat throughout the building. In the summer, the loop absorbs heat from the house and transfers it to the earth, resulting in a natural cooling system.
Geothermal heating systems can be configured to accommodate virtually any size lot in any type of landscape, from the seashore to the desert. Whether you live on a narrow city lot, or on thousands of acres of farmland, there’s a system that will fit your situation.
To encourage the development of alternative energy sources, the federal government presently is offering very attractive tax credits and other incentives. Geothermal heating systems qualify for many of these programs.
Located about 90 miles southeast of Minneapolis-St. Paul in Plainview, MN, Haley Comfort Systems is a leader in geothermal heating systems in the area. Visit our website section about Geothermal and Alternative Heating Systems for more information, or schedule an appointment to speak with one of our representatives. We look forward to hearing from you!

I don’t know why geothermal isn’t more popular. It is a fantastic technology and with the tax credits avaiable, it is very affordable.
