When looking to purchase a furnace, how do I know how efficient it is?

You can tell what the efficiency is on a furnace by the AFUE, or Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency. Indicated as a percentage, your furnace’s AFUE tells you how much energy is being converted to heat. For example, an AFUE of 90 means that 90 percent of the fuel is being used to warm your home, while the other 10 percent escapes as exhaust with the combustion gases.

What is the warranty on a Bryant furnace or air conditioner?

Most Bryant furnaces and air conditioners are covered by a 10-year parts limited warranty upon timely registration of your new equipment. In addition, many furnaces include a lifetime heat exchanger limited warranty. Contact a Haley Comfort Systems project manager for full details and for more information about optional extended and labor warranties.

What’s my best option when looking to convert my wood-burning fireplace to gas?

Can I shut my fireplace pilot light off in the summer?

Do I need a chimney to install a fireplace?

No, a traditional chimney is not necessary for installation of a gas fireplace. A gas fireplace can be installed in most areas of the house and direct vented through an exterior wall of the house.

What does the term “Zero Clearence” mean?

Zero clearance has two meanings. The first is whether or not the fireplace can be placed on a floor without footings. All of our fireplaces are classified as zero clearance, meaning they do not need special footings. The second meaning of zero clearance involves finishing up to the face of the fireplace so that no metal shows after installation is complete. We offer several models that are capable of this clean-faced, zero-clearance finish, making these a lot less expensive, since they don’t require a concrete chase. Contact a Haley Comfort Systems project manager to find out which models are suitable for this type of installation.

What considerations should I take into account as I begin to look for new lighting in my home?

  1. Know your budget. There are a lot of lighting options available today. Budget will impact the final lighting decisions, so have a good idea of what you’d like to spend in advance. Bright Ideas offers a variety of lighting products that will accommodate most budgets.
  2. Know your style and taste. Take a look around your home. What décor makes you the most comfortable? Look through magazines and find pictures of rooms that appeal to you. If possible, have color chips or fabric samples ready for when you make your lighting purchase.
  3. Know the use of the area you plan to light. Homework and food prep require different lighting than entertaining or just passing through. Some areas will serve multiple purposes, too, so you may need different types of lighting in a single location.
  4. Where’s the electricity? This is especially important for new construction or large remodeling jobs. Know where the outlets and electrical boxes are in the space you plan to illuminate. The less re-wiring you have to do, the better.
  5. How big is it? Take a look at the size of the room. If you have a 10-foot ceiling in your dining room, for example, a three-tier, 21-light chandelier won’t work for you. Also measure the space where you plan to install the light to ensure the fixture will fit.

When is the right time to choose lighting for my new home?

It’s never too early to start thinking about your new home’s lighting plan. There are so many decisions when building or remodeling. You can relieve a lot of pressure if you give yourself plenty of time to determine your needs and options. The electrician will normally get started on wiring for lighting fixtures when the roof is on and the walls are all framed up – often right after the plumber finishes work on your new home. The more prepared you are to meet with the electrician and communicate your lighting plan, the more enjoyable the lighting project will be for everyone involved.
